There are numerous opportunities for meat processors to start the transition from fossil gas to renewable heat - either by electrification using technologies such as heat pumps - or through the implementation of biogas and biomass heat generating solutions.


In this webinar presented in partnership with the Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) we outlined some of the key renewable heat technologies for meat processors, presented real-world feasibility studies from meat processors transitioning to renewable heat and heard about the latest research programs from the AMPC.

In this presentation, Jodo highlighting practical pathways for meat processors to reduce emissions while improving operational performance. The session explored energy efficiency, renewable electricity, heat pumps, electric boilers and biogas, supported by illustrative investment scenarios. It also demonstrated how staged decarbonisation strategies can help the industry progress towards net zero.



James Gallagher

Program Manager – Facilities and Utilities


James shared Don's renewable industrial heat journey, outlining the challenges and opportunities of decarbonising steam production at a large food manufacturing site. The presentation explored recent feasibility studies and the potential of electric thermal energy storage (ETES) and electric boilers to support the transition away from natural gas.

Mark presented the findings of a pre-feasibility study assessing electric steam options for a large meat processing facility. The presentation explored hybrid steam systems, electric boilers and ETES as practical pathways to reduce gas use, lower emissions and support industrial decarbonisation.

Chris introduced the Wingham Beef Energy Accelerator Study, outlining the site's industrial heat challenges and the renewable heat opportunities assessed to reduce emissions, improve efficiency and support long-term decarbonisation.



Graeme Harding

Technical Director of Process Engineering


Graeme explored renewable heat opportunities identified through the Wingham Beef Energy Accelerator Study, including rendering technologies, heat recovery, biomass and MVR. It compared the technical and commercial feasibility of different options to support industrial decarbonisation.



Laura Taylor

Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity


Laura introduced renewable heat opportunities for the Australian meat processing industry, highlighting where heat is used and the potential of heat pumps, biogas and biomass to reduce emissions and improve energy productivity.
