A2EP joins the campaign to Electrify Australia
Everyone in Australia deserves access to reliable, affordable and renewable energy.
That's why we've joined with a coalition of 30+ consumer, business, civil society and research groups to launch Electrify Australia.
Together, we’re calling on the Federal Government to accelerate electrification for Australia's households, transport, agriculture, industry, resources and commercial buildings.
The barriers differ by sector, but the answer is the same everywhere: clear policy signals, effective regulation and targeted incentives that reach the people and businesses currently locked out of the switch.
Sector opportunities
INDUSTRY
Strong Australian industry means secure jobs and thriving communities, and it starts with energy costs businesses can count on. Industrial heat pumps deliver three times the energy for the same cost as gas boilers, and food and beverage manufacturers, breweries, laundries and commercial kitchens could all be running on them now.

COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS

The best commercial buildings are efficient and cheaper to run. Owners get a building that holds its value, tenants get lower costs, and everyone shares the benefit. TRANSPORT
Australia's transport runs almost entirely on imported fuel. In March 2026 alone, automotive fuel prices rose more than 30 per cent in a single month, driving up costs for every household and business. All people in Australia who need to drive deserve to benefit from access to an electric vehicle, which has lower fuel and maintenance costs. Even with the introduction of efficiency standards bringing lower cost vehicles in Australia, the upfront cost of a new or second-hand EV is prohibitive for many.

In Australia, 77% of trips made by trucks today can already be covered by electric trucks. Light urban, heavy urban and most regional haul freight is readily electrifiable, and electric trucks already offer the lowest total cost of ownership.

The upfront cost is a barrier to many small and medium enterprises, and small businesses are 90% of the trucking sector.
AGRICULTURE
Australian farms run heavily on imported diesel, leaving families and communities exposed to volatile global oil markets. Electrifying farming equipment and powering day-to-day operations with affordable renewable electricity will cut costs, lift productivity and strengthen the resilience of Australia's agriculture.

Irrigation pumps account for 25 to 35 per cent of on-farm diesel use in cropping and cotton regions, and they're ready to electrify now.
Efficient electric alternatives exist for refrigeration, processing, hot water and stationary power, all able to run on the solar and batteries farmers are already installing.
